Rotary Club of Stamford - 70 years of Rotary Service - in 2017
Stamford Rotary Club was established in 1947 .
We meet at the George Hotel - Wednesdays 12.15 for 12.45
The
Club's catchment area is centered on in the delightful town of Stamford..a town built largely of mellow local stone.with many fine old buildings and Churches
The town of Stamford's rise to prosperity in the 15th is a fascinating history as the heart of the mediaeval woollen industry transporting its products
by water on the River Welland - the name of Stamford means a ford or crossing-place on the river.
Another claim to fame was Stamford's position on the Great North Road as a coaching station between London and York, When you come to the George Hotel you will see the two bars - The York room
on the right and the London room on the left where passengers waited while being refreshed!
In more recent times the town has been active in the fields of diesel engineering and eletrical generators. Perhaps tourism is its biggest industry nowadays. Stamford is just 1 mile from the A1
